No Regrets

Have you ever seen a movie where one actor asks the other: If you could go back in time and change anything about your life, what would it be? (Well, something along those lines...Example: 13 Going On 30 starring Jennifer Garner.) Sadly, every time I hear that line, it seems a million thoughts seem to race through my mind. I shouldn't have said that or I wish I would have taken so-and-so's advice. If you have ever been in that situation where you have done something you regret, don't. Don't regret it. Please.

In the words of Adele "Regrets and mistakes they're memories made." I am not saying that you shouldn't have a conscience. We all have our standards of what's right and what's wrong, but you should never beat yourself up over the past. The past can never be erased and what is past has passed.

I had a teacher last year that had us take out a piece of paper and pen for our class final. He said that our assignment was to write down two of our biggest regrets in life. After a while, everyone was done and the room was just full of this tension. There were obviously some things written down that probably weighed pretty heavily on some of my classmate's hearts. He tells us to throw the paper away and only keep it if we wanted to. Needless to say, I threw mine away.

He said that the point of that exercise was to learn to live life with no regrets. I'm sure, I tried very hard not to look at him like he was crazy. He continued and said that if we'd ever feel regret for anything in life, he hoped we would only have small regrets, 'like: not taking a shower last night.' Now, I could not help but thinking I wish someone would have told me earlier in life that they hoped I would only have small regrets in life. Maybe I would have made fewer mistakes, but who knows?

It's okay to think about things you have done, but I hope you never let anything you have done in the past keep you from living your life here in the present. I really believe that everything happens for a reason to get us where we're supposed to be in life. I am writing this because I hope that any mistake made or regrets that you feel will only be small ones. Why waste this life living with regret? ( If you're wondering, I can't think of a good an answer for that either.)

P.S., if you feel like in the morning you're going to regret not taking a shower, why not take one tonight? :)
